The Brave

The Brave

Last Friday, my class watched a movie 'Brave'. The main character was 'Merida', the princess of a small kingdom. This movie tells us about fate and how we should fight with them. We all have our own fate and what we do is change or respond to our fate while living through our lives... Merida and her mother, queen Elinor, try to change their fate. Now, what I'm going to do is compare Merida to other princesses in Disney movies such as Cinderella or Snow white.

But before I start just look at some trailers of this movie which can help you understand what kind of person Merida is...

First of all, Merida is far from Cinderella in life style. Cinderella's aim of life was true love and marriage, but Merida wanted freedom. She didn't want to be the princess which Cinderella was eager to be. Actually, Cinderella just wanted high status, in my opinion. She didn't know who is the prince and what kind of person he is but she just wanted to be the princess. She just knew that the prince is very 'handsome', nothing more. Merida was different. She wanted to choose her own love. She wanted to follow her heart. She didn't choose her fiancee and said that she needs time. This was a very good part for me because choosing one's fiancee is a decision that has to be made in great consideration. She knew that the decision can really change her life and considered it seriously, not like stupid Cinderella who only looked at appearance and believed in miracles. If Cinderella  was unhappy after marrying the prince, it's totally her fault.

Second, Merida was brave and courageous. She had thoughts and idea to chage her own life. In many Disney stories, like snow white, prince changes the princesses' life.  For example, if there were no prince coming near the dead snow white, Snow white will probably die. Her life was changed by outside force. But in Merida's case, it's different. Merida found her own spell by herself and knew how to use it. And thought she made a mistake while using her spell, she desperately tried to make up the mistake she made. She was responsible for her life!

In conclusion, Merida was powerful young women who really has true bravery. She knew how to overcome her fate. She didn't just cry like other princesses. She fought. She did  her best to make her life better knowing that it might work worse. I love her courage and strength to carry on her life. She's like the lyrics of Mariah carey's 'hero'. In the song, there's a part like this; Look inside you and be strong and you'll finally see the truth that a hero lies in you...:D

  1. I liked how your ideas were expanded in a very organized fashion. It might not be the most unique topic but you certainly managed to nail it on the head. Great job on the essay!
